Quartz

Thermobarometry

The recent development of the titanium-in-quartz thermobarometer, TitaniQ, provides the opportunity to investigate the thermal history of individual quartz crystals in igneous and high temperature metamorphic assemblages, and to use the information in conjuction with other thermometers (silicate, Fe-Ti oxide, Ti in zircon) as a barometer. We have developed a protocol for high precision, low detection limit (< 15 ppm) analysis of Ti in quartz utilizing ultrapure SiO2 to precisely determine the background on peak.
