The electron microprobe is well suited to applications in metallurgy and materials science. In the past, the lab has been involved in characterizing synthetic perovskite-structure compounds, a variety of ultra-hard ceramics, diffusion profiles in ceramics, carbides, fly ash, electrorefining slimes, III-V semiconductors, and superconductors.
